So we got a horse Tuesday.. lol He's a fixer upper. Very Happy He has/had ticks along his mane (frontline is taking care of that), bad hooves, and sunburn.

We took him to our vet Tuesday afternoon and got his coggins test done.. Still awaiting results. Anyone know how long this takes? I've heard about a week but I'm just curious what other people have experienced as far as wait times. Anyway.. Vet said he looks good besides what I posted above.

We had the Farrier out Wed. to give him a nice hoof trim which he badly needed. He's a little sore from the trim but otherwise fine. I've been treating his sunburn with aloe (lol.. He's spoiled) and it looks MUCH better. I also noticed he has a touch of rain rot on his forehead so I bought some M-T-G to go on that.. I also put it on his sunburns so we'll see how that does.

Here's some pictures of him.

We took these Sunday:

And these were taken Wed. after his hoof trim:

You got your horse!!! Hyper

He looks so much like the horse I had when I was young. Almost the same markings but Blaze looks much taller!

I'll have to try to dig up a photo to post. It was so long ago all the photos are in black and white! Blush
His name was Silver and he was a quarter horse. He was a very smart horse and knew how to dance (he was in parades before we got him)

Unfortunately he was abused by his previous owner. Amazingly he remained a gentle, trusting horse.
The only problem was if someone yelled "Hi Ho Silver"! Fear You see, the previous owners made him rear up when they yelled "Hi Ho Silver" by beating him with a board with barb wire wrapped around it. Sad It took us a long time to heal his wounds but he eventually recovered.

He never did get over hearing "Hi Ho Silver". He would rear & bolt every time. We had a nasty neighbor boy who got a kick out of yelling that when my sister would ride by their house. A few times my sister ended up riding back to the house under Silver's neck. Not funny, but at the same time it was if you could have seen my sister. Laugh

Wow, Blaze is sure bringing back a lot of memories! He's beautiful!! Wub

Yup! I need to take better pictures.. lol Maybe sometime this week if I can remember to bring my camera with me.

I'd LOVE to see pictures! I love looking at horses.. Hehe.

As for the poor horse being abused, Blaze has been roughed up a bit although not horribly so.. Most of his abuse is pure neglect. *sigh*

Yes! Take more pictures!

I found the old photo of Silver. His tail was white and Blaze's is brown. It's not a great photo but this was many years ago! He had more white on the other side of him that's not showing. I'll try to dig up a better photo.

I was told he was a Quarter Horse. I was pretty young at the time but I had another Quarter Horse named Frisky in the 80's and he seemed to be about the same build as Silver from what I remember. I'll double check with my sister. She is 13 years older than me so she may know more than me about Silver. I do remember being told he was a Quarter Horse but my memory is pretty fuzzy.

Why? Do you think he looks more like a Paint?

The reason I say paint is because of his coloring. I've never seen a QH with that coloring before. Very Happy

I dunno! Laugh Laugh

Ahh!! I think I found the answer! Woot
In the 1960's which is around the time we had Silver the "The American Paint Quarter Horse Association" (APQHA) was formed. Here is a little bit of history: http://www.clayself.com/pveducation.html

I found this on Wiki:
Quarter Horses come in nearly all colors. The most common color is a brownish red, part of the color group called chestnutby most other breed registries. Other recognized colors include bay, black, "brown" (genetically a variation on bay), buckskin, palomino, graydun, red dun, grullo (also occasionally referred to as blue dun), red roan, blue roan, bay roan, perlino, and cremello. In the past, spotted or pinto colors were excluded, but now with the advent of DNA testing to verify parentage, the registry accepts all colors as long as parents are registered.[citation needed]

Learn something new every day! Very Happy

The mud probably makes his sunburn feel better. Chuckle

Why am I seeing Blaze's photobucket images have been moved or deleted? Blink

Poor baby!! Sad How could anyone let a horse get that bad! I just don't understand some people. I guess it could have been worse but it looks very uncomfortable! No wonder Blaze keeps rolling in the mud! Since you have been treating him he is probably starting to itch too. Sunburn itches when it starts to heal.

It will be fun to watch his progression as you baby him back to health! Wub

Well, I finally have free time to post new pictures! It seems like we're always running here or there. Owning a horse keeps us busy and on our toes. lol

We took these pictures this past Tuesday. You can view his album of all the pics we've taken so far at: https://s137.photobucket.com/albums/q233/silvaheyes/Blaze/
