Humming Birds are here
Has anyone else had influx of Humming birds since the Hurricane, Here's a picture of one of my feeders in the back yard I have four and sometimes they are all full with the birds.

Re: Humming Birds are here
The Hummers are beautiful! What is scary for me is that they must have migrated from the north a little early. Usually this means a early winter for us! The last two weeks of August I change the food from one part sugar, four parts water to 2 parts sugar, 3 parts water. That helps them eat less nectar and bulk up on insects for the migration.
Some people think that keeping feeders up during the autumn months Hummingbirds will stay north too long and don't make it to warmer weather in time and they die. This is a myth. Hummingbirds will migrate when it is time no matter how long the feeders are left up and late migrating hummers can actually benefit from the added energy.
My grandma always said that an influx of hummingbirds in the south meant early cold weather and snow in the north. Ouch! It's already suppose to get down to 39 tonight. I'm ready to start a fire.
I'll bet the hurricane didn't have as much to do with the influx. I think the hurricane was just a coincidence and I had better start splitting some wood!
Watch for color-marked Hummers! Because we know little about actual overland migrational pathways for hummingbirds, observers are asked to report any sightings they may have of color-marked hummingbirds. http://www.hiltonpond.org/ColorMarkedRTHUMain.html

Re: Humming Birds are here
The number of humming birds has started to reduce in the last day, if the myth is true you may want to break out your winter clothes and stock up on fire wood.
