Peticure: Has anyone tried it? Empty Peticure: Has anyone tried it?

Post  Riverdog Tue Aug 12, 2008 2:12 am

I was thinking about purchasing the Peticure and I was wondering if anyone has tried it yet.

Doc holds fairly still when I clip his nails but I still worry about hitting the quick. Because of my fear, his nails are a little longer than I would like them to be. I thought maybe the Peticure would be my answer to shorter nails. Shrug

Have read some bad reviews on this tool, not in the way it does the nails, but that the battery doesn't last. My groomer uses a dremmel tool. If you do a search on the internet I think it is the dremmel tool company offers a guard to go over the demmel tool similar to the one on the pet a cure. WalMart sells a cordless dremmel tool for around 22.00 dollars.

We use a Dremel too.. It's basically the same thing. I've also heard bad reviews on the Pedicure and that it's way louder than the Dremel which isn't very good if you have a dog that is easily scared/spooked.

They're between $20-$30 at Wal-Mart and VERY easy to use.

Dremel actually makes their own pet version.. But I'm pretty sure the original works just as good. Probably just a marketing thing plus they can charge more if it is used for pets or whatever.

Here's the link: http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Tools/Pages/ToolDetail.aspx?pid=761

The guard has the holes in it to insert the nail, I'm assuming to prevent sanding down too much.

I have two Craftsman Dremel's but they are way too loud for Doc plus they have a cord so I would be limited on where I used it. I was hoping the Peticure would be more quiet. Darn!

I may work with Doc and try to get him used to my Dremel before I waste any money on a cordless.
Doc is scared to death of the vacuum cleaner so I'm guessing the Dremel would be a nightmare!

It's so strange how some dogs are afraid of noises and others aren't. My dog Rooney loved the vacuum! When he was a puppy he would ride on top of it and as he got older he liked me to use the hose attachment on him! Doc was afraid even before I ever turned the darn thing on for the first time. I think he must have been traumatized by one before I got him. He loves motorized toys and he's not afraid of other noises so hopefully he'll get used to the Dremel. I like the idea of the guard.

The only thing different I've read between using a Dremel and using the Peticure is that the Peticure has a "safety stop". The only problem is... I haven't found out exactly what the safety stop does. huh All I could find was that it had one. I'm not sure if it prevents overheating or what. I'm still searching!!!

I read that the guard helps hold the nail in place to prevent vibration and jumping. Smile

Thanks!!!! Wub

I noticed that the cordless dremel that my groomer uses on my dogs does not make a lot of noise, and without the cord is a lot less trouble to use.

not sure why the batteries wouldn't last on pedicure since they have a charger maybe it's the petapaw version that doesn't come with a charger you're talking about?
